While growing up in Houston, I first began exploring art at the Glassell School when I could barely hold a pencil. By 10, I was experimenting with oils on canvas and remember the excitement from acquiring the easel that I still use today in Austin.
Through the years I have remained loyal to painting, barely straying to other mediums, and am mostly self taught. All of my formal education went towards more practical fields, and it’s only been in the last few years that I’ve resurrected my passion of painting. Painting was a part of me that was denied for many years, but is now a great part of my life.
Currently, my focus is on calm structure and pushing my ability as an underpainter. The dominant subject matters are new perspectives on standard European landmarks, which are reproductions of black and white photos I’ve taken, and flowers that I keep in my house.
The technique that is used is modified underpainting, where the base canvas is red or blue and layers of acrylic paint go on top, starting with shadows.
